Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant at Cleveland Public Theatre

My friends know me well — or they at least read my blog — because they surprised me with an early Christmas present this past Saturday: 2 tickets to Conni’s Avant Garde Restaurant at Cleveland Public Theatre. Regardless of whether they took a hint from ‘All I Want for Cleve-mas,’ they stumped…

Guest Blog Post: Cleveland and its many craft fairs

The concept of shopping locally for hand made items has always been something Clevelanders can get behind.  I have several (or at least one) memories of my own mom making eucalyptus wreaths and taking us all to a big church hall to run around and meet other women who were selling…

This Wonderful Life at The Cleveland Play House – a Wonderful Way to Spend the Holidays

When It’s A Wonderful Life premiered in 1946, it was a box office flop.  Completely financed by Director Frank Capra and his Liberty Films studio for $3.8 million, its total run grossed only $3.3 million and resulted in the studio going bankrupt.  However, much like George Bailey in the…

All I Want for Cleve-mas: Holiday Shows Whose Tickets I Wouldn't Mind in My Stocking

When it comes to giving and receiving gifts, I’ve always been partial to experiences rather than things.  This not just comes from the pack rat tendency I’ve been working hard to shake, but also because I’ve found that the memories of an art class, day trip or nice night out on the…

Cleveland Fish Frys: They're De-Lent-cious!

During Lent, Cleveland seems to transform into ‘The Land of a Thousand Fish Frys.’ Everywhere I turn there’s either a church or a restaurant offering some sort of Fish Fry or Lenten menu. From pierogies and potato pancakes to coleslaw and macaroni and cheese, my mouth is usually left watering from the options. And then of course, there are the fish. Fresh perch and walleye lightly breaded or battered are the most common options. And no matter how you like it – plain or seasoned with a bit of lemon, tartar sauce or malt vinegar, you can’t really go wrong.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It was beautiful, sunny and warmish outside today so I walked down to Superior Ave. on my lunchbreak to check out Cleveland’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  It started at 1pm and went to 4pm, so I only got to catch a few glimpses of it. But for the short time I was down there, it…
