Between getting home from Pittsburgh late Sunday, a birthday, and a busier-than-normal week at work, I’m running around – to quote Scott – “like a Muppet on fire.”
Because of this, today’s post is a bit haphazard. Here are five things this Friday I felt like sharing.
The Happiest of Birthdays: Oct. 17 is my favorite day of the year, because (cheese alert) it celebrates the best gift I ever received – Scott. I warned you.
Although Scott got his present last month with tickets to Baltimore Comic Con, that doesn’t mean we still can’t celebrate. Scott prefers to keep things low-key so last night’s birthday dinner involved Chinese takeout and Parks and Rec.
However, I did manage to also surprise him with tickets to the sold-out Hops and Heroes. As comic book and Cleveland beer fans, we’re very excited for Great Lakes’ Cleveland Beer Week event with Carol and John’s Comic Book Shop.
Raise money for PlayhouseSquare’s Bus Fund at Saturday’s OSU Watch Party
Drink, Eat, and Watch Football … for the Kids! Before that, though, join us at the Blind Pig this Saturday for an OSU watch party to benefit PlayhouseSquare. Their young professionals group Partners (disclosure: I’m on the board) hosts this every year to raise money for the theatre’s bus fund. $30 at the door gets you pizza, wings, pasta, beer, wine and well drinks throughout the game. Proceeds from the food and drink package, raffle and football squares will help local schools be able to afford transportation to see shows at PlayhouseSquare. Let’s Hangout and Talk Blogging: Changing gears, I’m happy (and maybe a little nervous) to share that I’ll be participating in a Google+ Hangout On Air on Thursday, 10/24. Last month, I wrote a post on PR Newswire for Bloggers about how to incorporate journalism best practices into blog writing. And on Thursday at 1pm ET, I’ll be joined by Christine Cube, who was a journalist for over 10 years and current blogger, as we discuss how journalists and bloggers can learn from one another. Fruitful Fall with YP Pantry: Are you looking to get more involved in the community? The Cleveland Foodbank’s young professionals group has a very busy fall planned (disclosure: I’m a council member). In November and December, YP Pantry has 4 volunteer opportunities for you, as well as a beer-tasting at Whole Foods.
On Nov. 9 and Dec. 14, help us prepare and distribute lunches to children at the Rainey Institute, as well as assist with their faculty-run education activities. On Nov. 15, we’ll be volunteering at Calvary Church’s Hot Meals Dinner, and on Dec. 5, we’ll be hosting a donation repack at the Cleveland Foodbank.
Our next social event is Nov. 13, when we’ll be making pizzas at Whole Foods and enjoying them with 4-5 generous beer samples. That event costs only $10 at the door, with $5 going back to the Foodbank. That means each person attending will provide 20 healthy meals to Northeast Ohio’s hungry. Chow down and drink up!
