Good to be #HomeInCLE

It's good to be home. Given this picture, it's not hard to guess where I disappeared to.

I’m back!  Many thanks to Kate and Elizabeth for sharing their Cleveland experiences while I was out of town. If you missed it, check out Elizabeth’s post on the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and Kate’s look at  Bazaar Bizarre and the other handmade craft events in Cleveland — yet even more reasons to love this city.

In addition to giving my handful of regular readers (all 2 of you) a change of pace, it was also nice to enjoy my vacation without worrying about radio silence on Clue Into Cleveland.  I had other things on my mind – namely the honeymoon Scott and I were finally able to take after almost two years of marriage and two days of driving from Cleveland to Orlando.

Scott and I at EPCOT. Despite standing in line with a handful of children just so we could stick our heads in a shark's mouth, it was worth it after getting this picture.

I generally avoid writing about non-Cleveland things on this blog, but I’m going to break that rule for the next two paragraphs (if you’d like, skip ahead – otherwise consider yourself warned). When Scott and I were married a couple of years ago, the plan was to have a ceremony in Key West (one of my favorite getaways) and go to DisneyWorld for our honeymoon (one of Scott’s favorites).  After sitting down and weighing our realities, the honeymoon was put on hold so that we could instead buy a house.  The better choice, of course — we love the home we found in Avon Lake.  However, although I had gotten what I wanted, Scott (the thoughtful one as usual) had to put his plans aside. Considering how often he willingly puts up with me and my crazy adventures, taking this trip with Scott was something I should’ve done a long time ago.

So after finding the time and booking the trip, we spent the last two weeks on our longest roadtrip yet – exploring Orlando and enjoying EPCOT’s Captain EO, Universal’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Magic Kingdom’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Over the course of the 3000 miles we drove, we made stops in Virginia to visit my parents and sister and Miami to see our friends Cathy and Dan. Although we sadly didn’t run into Bruce Campbell or a Burn Notice filming while we were in Miami, the trip definitely exceeded its expectations.  We not only got to relax (I didn’t look at my planner once), but even the ‘magic’ of Disney lived up to everything Scott had told me despite my general cynicism of things like that.

Hitting the town in Miami - glad we didn't run into LeBron, but sad we missed out on Bruce Campbell filming Burn Notice.

I’m happy to be home, though. And although I may have missed my first snow of the season, I’ve hit the ground running. Tonight Scott and I are off to Gordon Square’s Cleveland Public Theatre to see Conni’s Avant Garde Restaurant: Feast of Miracles.  Thanks to an early Christmas gift, I’m looking forward to writing about CPT’s ‘dinner theatre of the absurd.’  And with friends from Philly visiting for New Year’s, I can’t wait to share this city with guests in a couple weeks.

As a side note, I’ve caved and created a Tumblr page.  On occasion I’ve wanted to share my world outside of Cleveland. So taking inspiration from this blog’s title, you can now ‘Clue into Amanda’ and whatever’s striking my fancy at the moment – from photos of trips, random recommendations on comic books, or tales of our ill-behaved but irreplaceable cat Chloe. I’ve never been good at personal blogs, so you probably shouldn’t expect much. However, for those interested in following my infrequent updates, enjoy!
